We had a wonderful opening reception on Friday September 27th.
Here is the online version of the show, enjoy!
The pieces are displayed here in the same order as they are presented on the walls of Inside Town. There are a couple pieces missing, I will add them as soon as I find better pictures. To see Carine Masutti’s artwork, you have to scroll all the way down past my blue blobs! It’s worth it.

L'Inverosimile (in-veh-ro-see-mee-leh) is the Italian word for improbable.
It's a word that came up over this last month as my mother was recovering in the St Antoine Hospital of Paris. During her stay she found uncanny connections with her neighbors and decided to reconnect with Italian, one of her family's languages. My mother and I chose this word to describe events big and small that pushed and pulled on our family over the years: coincidences, reconnections, new people showing up at the strangest moments. This two person show is a collection of drawings that explores this unknowable weaving of people and events. Delicate improvised floating worlds in color pencils and otherworldly flying creatures will be having a conversation on the walls of Inside Town Art Collective in Chicago.

This series is constructed like a deck of cards, inspired by the game "Le Jeu des Sept Familles", known as "Happy Families" in English. Each drawing represents a certain role that is attributed to a member of a family or social group. Labels like "the quiet one", "the troublemaker", "the peacemaker", "the clown", and "the broken one" are fixed to people, sometimes arbitrarily. They tend to stick even though people evolve. In this series you will find pairs, indirect connections, and calls and responses. To Be Heard, To Be Hearing. Boulders, feathers, and other elements meet their poetic opposites. I made this series with religious miniatures in mind. Growing up without a religion, I created my own vessels for spirituality. These images are like tiny prayers directed to someone or something in the hopes that somehow things will get better.

About the show, Carine wrote this :
My family history, full of flights and reinventions across national borders, has made me rich - in culture and imagination that are composites and are never fixed. There are improbable connections between the somewheres-somethings-someones, though they're often hidden. My images and music tell stories about them.
I started these crayons drawings during a time of illness, exploring color at lowest costs and efforts. It came as it came.
Chances, affinities, similarities are everywhere, unexpected, inverosimile.
